„ […] Lichens are not an anomaly, they are rather evidence that nature and life persist in a complex, queer, and interspecies entanglement of relations.”
Queer is still an undesirable and stigmatized phenomenon in Poland. In this predominantly conservative society, which is strongly attached to Catholic traditions, there is still no acceptance for otherness, which is pushed to the social margins or beyond the country’s borders. It was in Poland that LGBT-free zones were established; here, the level of discrimination against LGBTQ+ people is one of the highest in the EU. Will the future change this situation, or will the fear-driven resistance grow even stronger? Will the conditions for LGBTQ+ people in Poland become favorable enough for them to fully realize their civil and human potential, or will they continue to be treated as something that needs to be removed, at least from the public view?
